Tell Me Why…

If you sang that then we can totally be friends. I can’t think of a time in the past twenty years that I haven’t sang that verse in my best Backstreet Boys voice whenever someone says, “tell me why….”. You sang it again didn’t you? It’s ok. I sang it as I typed it. I am not sure if it’s a clinical condition to randomly sing song verses used in everyday life. Sometimes the person or people you are conversating with gets it. Then there are the times the other person does not get it and you just stand there wondering how they don’t get it.

This has happened me several times. Sometimes in not so great places, like work meetings or doctors offices. One time in a work meeting the gentleman giving the presentation says that promotion from within is best because keeping it “all in the family” is the best way to keep the company strong. Of course my brain jumps right into “All in the Family” by Korn. Stuffy office meetings and Korn, I am pretty sure if I had belted that line of the song out in the meeting mo one would have known what I was talking about. Ok, maybe one or two people.

What is it about music that does this to people me, or people like us? If you are relating to any of this. Tell me why it is that when ever Sweet Caroline comes on the masses must burst out “bahm bahm bahm” right after? I know I can’t help myself, like ever. It’s a classic for sure.

Sometimes it doesn’t even take words for me to burst out a song verse. Have you ever been driving in the rain and all of the sudden the sun comes through the clouds? Can you guess what song comes forth? If you guessed Have You Ever Seen the Rain by Creedence Clearwater Revival, you’d be absolutely correct. And let me tell ya, in that moment everything is just a little more beautiful. Music is absolutely beautiful regardless of the type you listen to. It does something for the soul. It heals, it brings up memories good and bad. It makes you look like a fool when you belt out random song verses in the middle of conversations.
