The first words he says to me are, “I knew you’d message me.” Yeah yeah yeah, whatever. “I am bored these days.”
We sent a few messages back and forth until he decided to call because that would “make things easier”, he’s not wrong. We wound up talking for three hours. Laughed so hard we were in tears and surprisingly had a really good time. Dammit, he was right. At the end of the conversation he reminded me that he was free the next day and I should come over. I laughed a little and replied with a “I can’t, I have therapy.”. Hoping that would raise a flag and he would drop the invite. It did not. He just said, “cool, come over after. We’ll play Mario Kart.”
We end the phone call on that note.
THe next morning I wake up and start my day with coffee and The Sunday Morning show. My phone goes off and it’s a simple message, “Can’t wait to kick your ass at Mario Kart later. Wink face emoji.” I reply with my actual response to the message. “Eye roll emoji”. To his credit I did actually giggle a little. Maybe he’s not so bad and maybe I should go over later. I’ll ask my therapist if this is a good idea.
My therapist thought it was a good idea. Well damn. She had a point, how bad could it be to go hang out and meet new people? It would turn out to go places I never imagined.
